Halloween Parade

Today was Austin's Halloween Parade. I was extra excited about the parade this year because this is the first year that Austin is excited about dressing up for Halloween. Last year he didn't care much about Halloween and we were in Hawaii so we didn't dress him up. This year he understands so much more and talks about it in school and with his friends.

He talks about Spiderman on a regular basis so I knew that would be the costume for him. We asked him if he wanted to be Spiderman for Halloween and he was very enthusiastic about it. We saw the costume at PartyCity in mid-September and he loved it as soon as he tried it on. I knew that he would still be excited about it when Halloween rolled around.

The kids in Austin's class got to tell the audience who they were dressed as. Some were shy and some were bold. Austin was the last to go, we watched him peeking through the window watching as everyone else went. When it was his turn we were all surprised at how confidently he said, "Spiderman!" when he got to the microphone.

Quote of the day

Last night during dinner, Austin put his hand gently on my arm and said,

"Mama, I have to tell you something..."

I looked at him, listening intently, and he said,

"We don't talk to strangers."

Pumpkin Patch

The Sea Star class and the Dolphin class went on a field trip to a pumpkin patch yesterday. The parents picked up the kids a little early and we met up at a pumpkin patch in Torrance.

The pic on the right was my attempt to get a nice fall holiday picture. But, Austin was much happier when I changed him into his Spiderman costume.

There were pony rides, bounce houses, petting zoo and pumpkins galore. It was a small parking lot patch, but still lots of fun for the little kids. I think Austin's favorite part was running among the pumpkins with his friends.

Chase me, chase me!

Interesting looking pumpkins

Muscles!

We headed to Del Amo mall afterward for dinner with a couple of other families.

My little helper

Austin loves being involved in what I'm doing and he's such a good helper. I remember the days that I used to give him a toy and sit him in his Bumbo seat next to me as I put goody bags together. This time, he was playing with his toys and I sat myself down next to him to put goody bags together. He's big enough now that he can actually help me with them!

Mater on the road

Last night, as Austin was getting into bed, he was holding his Mater fire truck. I asked him, "Where does Mater go?" I expected him to put it on the table next to his bed. Instead, he said, "I need to put him on the road." And ran out to his train table to put him on the "road." :)

Getty Getaway Day

Austin and I had a fun day at the Getty Museum with my sister. Today was her school's Getty Getaway Day. It was a hot, sunny day and the sun reflected into our eyes off of all the white stone surfaces, but we still enjoyed roaming the museum.

Austin looked at the artwork with us and commented on some pieces. He said the people in one of the stained glass windows "looked sad," he was intrigued by the dark room (the lights were dim in the manuscripts room) and wanted to go up and down the stairs. He also liked the fountains and taking the foam "noodles" in and out of the holes in the wall in the "Family Room."

We didn't leave the museum until 5pm and we were all worn out. Austin fell asleep on the way home and when we got home he insisted that I nap with him on the floor. So, Allison and I napped with him on his bedroom floor for a little while - he slept for almost 3 hours!
