Austin went to urgent care for the first time tonight and got his first stitches. After some anesthesia from a big needle, some tears, blood, screams and five stitches later, we have my big brave boy who got a Superman sticker, four Cars stickers and a lollipop from the doc and got to eat the candy he picked out last Sunday on the ride home.
This was all a result of running in the classroom to get his stuffed animal. Sounds like he tripped on the step in the room and flew into the cubbie shelf. There was apparently a good amount of bleeding but it stopped pretty quickly and he only cried for a few minutes before getting back to playing. And this all happened at 5:05pm, just as I was leaving work to pick him up.
We stopped at home to grab some dinner for the kids and headed to a nearby Urgent Care.
Once in the urgent care room, his cut was prepped then he was strapped like a burrito onto a board and his face was covered with a paper to keep things clean (although it got soaked with tears and moved around when Austin moved his head). It was pretty scary for him, especially when seeing the big needle to numb his face and being poked repeatedly when the doc was stitching his cut. He kept saying, "Can I be done?" "Can I get out now?" and "I wanna get out!" Near the end he said, "I want my mama to carry me!"
Even Jackson couldn't handle big brother's pain. He started crying when he heard Austin cry and had to leave the room.

Once back in the waiting room he was back to his 'ol self. His lollipop was a Mystery flavor. I asked him to taste it and tell me what it tastes like. He said, "I think it tastes like mystery flavor."
The doctor mostly emphasized that he stay out of the sun for the next 6 months. And, other than no swimming for five days, can pretty much go back to normal. But, he will have to go the doctor to have the stitches removed in five days.
This is now the second person I have had to go with to get
emergency stitches. Willis had to get a gash stitched
from getting an elbow to the eye years ago while playing basketball. This was almost
like de ja vu (except there was less screaming the first time and less waiting this time).
