It's like a picnic

Of all our years of travel, this is the very first time we have had to rent a luggage cart. $5 to rent a luggage cart seems like a lot, but getting it so I could pick up our two suitcases and two car seats from baggage claim and take them and the kids out to wait for Willis to pick us up was sooo worth it!

Having a snack as we wait for our ride. Austin said, "It's like a picnic!"

The traffic to get out of the airport, on the other hand, was not great. Lane closure around terminals 3 and 4 when all the last flights of the night were getting in created a madhouse of a traffic jam!

Look what he made

I had a pack of craft pipe cleaners in my bag of activities to occupy the kids on the plane. It occupied Jackson for about four minutes because all he wanted to do was pull them out of the package and throw them on the floor. They held Austin's attention for 15-20 minutes at first but he came back to them again later and was asking for them after we got off the plane.

This is what he made. I think he said it was a monster with two feet but now it's a monster with five feet.

Rolling thru the airport

This big boy rolled his backpack through check-in all the way to the plane and from the plane to baggage claim without once asking if he could ride in the stroller.

New toys

Austin making things out of foam spongy pellet things you wet and stick together. They were ships at first but then he decided they're airplanes instead.

The result

The result of over an hour fight with the nap ended like this. Face in the crack of cushions.

Evening stroll at the pier

Took a walk after dinner at Mama D's down to Manhattan Beach Pier on a dreary, sprinkly summer evening.

Sick day

He was back to normal last night, but couldn't go back to school due to his fever. So, we stayed home and found some fun things to do.

A little Candyland in the morning

A little Mary Poppins movie time (I convinced Austin to watch it and he finally agreed, then I dozed off next to him for half an hour). :)

Some hot chicken soup with rice and bunny crackers for lunch

Some quiet resting time for Austin (aka unsuccessful nap), some cleaning house for me and an afternoon snack rounded out our sick day at home.

Always fun to have a little Austin & Mama one-0n-one time.

If it's not one, it's the other...

Fever has plagued our summer. Back and forth between Jackson and Austin. Doesn't seem like they're getting the same illnesses but seem to be taking turns nonetheless. Today Austin was sent home with a 102.2 degree fever. Poor guy was not feeling well, very tired and had no appetite. :( That is until a dose of Tylenol made it all go away..

Shots and a fever

I took Jackson to get a couple of shots at the pediatrician's office last Friday morning. He had an early breakfast before we left to take Austin to school, then we went straight to his appointment.

He had a sudden runny nose and cough on Thursday night that seemed to have started at bedtime. But, the doc said he was still okay to get his shots. I woke him as I took him out of the car and he was fine until I tried to lie him down on the table. The nurse tried to offer him a lollipop but he just shook his head and cried. After his shots she offered him a doggie sticker but he just shook his head. He calmed down when I picked him up and finally took the sticker from me when I showed it to him back at the car. He fell asleep again just before arriving back at school.

His class was playing outside so I hung around to watch Jackson play. He favored the tricycles and got on, pushed himself backward, rolled around, got off, walked around, went down the slide, went back to the tricycles, over and over. I enjoyed watching him and his buddies Andrew and Chloe interact. The two came rushing over to him when he arrived as if to say, "Hey Jackson! Where ya been?! Let's go play!"

The kids had a water break before heading inside and I was proud to see Jackson sit in the circle around his teacher, drink his water from the little paper cup, ask for seconds, then walk his empty cup over to the trash can when he was done.

I left when they went inside, made a trip to Target, got home and just sat down with my lunch when I noticed a missed call from Beach Babies. One of those dreaded calls, I had to gobble up my lunch and head back to pick up my little guy with a 101 degree fever. He rarely gets fevers from shots so I am blaming his weakened immune system since it was already fighting a cold. His teacher said he was tired and not himself. He pretty much stayed asleep through being picked up from his cot, putting his shirt on, getting in the car, getting out of the car and lying down in his crib. He slept for three hours and I measured his temp after he woke up at 98.6 degrees. Phew!

He continued a little runny nose and slight cough over the weekend but seemed much better and back to his normal active self.
