Mother's Day Tea

Today was Austin's class' Mother's Day Tea. I saw the Sea Stars & Dolphins Mother's Day Tea on the newsletter every year and I couldn't wait till it was my turn to do that with Austin. This year he's finally a Sea Star and I was so excited.

I met Austin at school and he surprised me with a wrist corsage. Then, we walked over to the grassy field at the Sand Dune park with his class. The Sea Stars kids presented their moms with an "I love my mommy because..." drawing and a present. Austin went up to the front but was too shy to say anything when presenting my picture so Ms. Nicole helped him. His picture said, "I love my mommy because... I want to take a picture of her." When I asked him what he drew, he said, "A picture of mommy and me. That's mama and that's me." He's the one on the right and I'm the one on the left. (One of the other moms pointed out that the figure in the circle must be the baby in my belly)

We munched on crackers, apples, grapes, little cream cheese sandwiches and little jelly sandwiches. Austin LOVED the jelly sandwiches. He ate the one I got for him and the one I got for me. I got him another and later another for myself, which disappeared into that giggling boy's tummy.

My corsage and my Mother's Day card

At the end we were gathered for a big game of duck-duck-goose. We weren't picked until the very end when one of the Dolphin kids picked me. I got up and said, "Come on Austin!" He was not happy about it and cried that he didn't want to. So, the game pretty much ended then and everyone got up to leave. After everyone else was gone, Austin and his friend Julianna played duck-duck-goose on their own and had fun running around in circles.

Their beds

Jackson slept in the crib for a two hour stretch last night. It's rare for him to sleep that long in one stretch without having to burp or spit up or just wake up and cry. He did one or two hour stretches a few times in the bassinet, but I'm happy he did it in the crib. I think it's a good sign that at two and a half months old he'll start to sleep longer and longer.

I put a flat sheet on Austin's bed for the first time this week. He usually just has a blanket but I thought having the flat sheet on his bed might help keep his blanket in place. His blanket usually gets pushed on the side when he rolls around in his sleep. It worked great the first night, but the second night he took forever to arrange his stuffed animal friends under the sheet and blanket (with just the blanket, the friends would be shoved in a pile and covered by the blanket. With the sheet he wants them to be lined up along his pillow and tucked in under the sheet). I watched him arrange and rearrange them for five minutes before I had to intervene. I think it's the funniest when he says (in the dark), "I can't find my other doggie." And it's right in his pile of friends.

Ten Weeks today!

Jackson is ten weeks old today!
-He continues to have a healthy appetite and seems to have gotten chubbier over the weekend
-He's definitely growing out of size 1 diapers. We're trying to use them up and already have size 2 stocked up for when the 1's run out.
-His neck is getting stronger and stronger, he still working on holding his head up during tummy time but when I carry him he holds his head up nice and high to see over my shoulder.
-He started discovering his hands this week and putting them in his mouth
-I saw him looking at his hand yesterday
-He still loves when people talk to him right up close and he smiles and coos
-He rubs face with hands a lot, usually when he's tired or upset
-I think he's getting more comfortable in the crib since we introduced him to it last week. He especially likes the jungle mobile that used to be Austin's. He can lie in the crib and watch the animals parade around for quite a while.
-Willis talked to Jackson's teacher, Ms. Shanelle, yesterday and they concluded that Jackson likes his milk hot, if it's too cool he gets upset and refuses it.

Today was my first day back to work. Willis' first time doing the double drop off before work and my first time doing the double pickup after work. I think it went pretty well.

Austin is an awesome big brother. He is still excited to see baby and shares his toys with him. He's always bringing him things saying, "I have a present for baby" or "I want to give him this." It warms my heart when he shares his favorite toys with Jackson, like his Playmobile motorcycle or Handy Manny tools. Also, when he does things he's proud of he wants to share with Jackson - when he changed his clothes all by himself and Willis told him to show me he showed me then said, "let me show baby!" and he got some "Cars" pictures with markers from the prize box yesterday - he colored the first one and said, "this picture is for baby."
